We can't say for sure now if Kaisa will
ever dare ride outside a flat fenced area again, or if Christoffer
will ever be convinced to even get on a horse again, but what we do
know is that we went on a breathtakingly beautiful ride on steep
rainforest paths, saw the kind of a waterfall that should be included
in all the guidebooks, and deeply admired the skills of our guide as
well as the strong, sure-footed horses. And Lina was happily trotting
down the hill, having the time of her life!
But Leka's favorite part came when we
were safely back at the hostel and had gotten off the horses. ”Look,
he's getting away!” he said to the guide when one of the horses
started heading out to the road. ”It doens't matter. We live just a
few houses away and he knows his way back home.” This is life in
the Costa Rican countryside: you'll want to drive carefully, because
you never know if a horse might come and meet you on the road, with a
saddle and everything, but no rider.
