After cycling for several days without
seeing any cyclotourists at all we naturally then bumped into three
in the same day. These guys were Dutch (as one might have guessed
seeing the bright orange shirt) and had just started their three-week
cycling tour from San Jose. They were headed to the Pasific coast,
planning to visit Playa Samara, but were a bit shocked by the chilly
weather around Arenal.
We promised the Dutchmen they'd be able
to get rid of their long sleeves once they'd reach the Nicoya
peninsula, as the weather had been excellent when we were in the
area. So excellent, that we'd been actually hoping for more fresh air
when we sweated on the dusty roads.
But it looked like all of our dreams
would come true, as we were traveling on the cooler mountain slopes
and they going westwards to the sun. As we've stated many times
before, Costa Rica is an amazing mixture of mountains, beaches,
valleys, rainforests and beaches in a very small space. That is,
small on the two-dimensional map, but signinficantly bigger in the
three-dimensional reality...
